Choosing products with less sodium/salt, as part of a healthy lifestyle, may help you on your health journey.&nbsp;

It is recommended to eat a variety of protein foods to get more of the nutrients your body needs (<a title="proteins-food" href="https://www.myplate.gov/eat-healthy/protein-foods" target="_blank">MyPlate.gov/protein</a>). Proteins function as building blocks for bones, muscle, enzymes, and more. Protein needs can vary depending on age, sex, height, weight, and physical activity, as well as if you are pregnant or lactating, but FDA has established a daily value for protein as 50 grams per day (FDA).&nbsp;&nbsp;

MyPlate is a simple guideline that makes it easy to shop for a healthy, balanced diet, without requiring a scientific understanding of nutrition.
<h2>Who developed MyPlate?</h2>
The U.S Department of Agriculture (USDA) created MyPlate in 2011 to help consumers make healthy food choices.
<h2>How does MyPlate promote healthy eating?</h2>
MyPlate recommends filling half of your plate with fruits and vegetables (with vegetables covering a larger portion of that half plate than fruits) and suggests focusing on whole fruits and getting a variety of veggies. The other half of the plate is split between grains and protein foods. MyPlate suggests making half of your grains whole grains and varying your protein routine.&nbsp;
MyPlate includes a variety of protein sources in this group, from seafood, lean meat, skinless poultry and eggs to beans/lentils/soy, and nuts and seeds. The symbol of a glass cup next to the plate represents the dairy group which includes a variety of milks (even fortified soy milk), yogurt, and cheese but doesn’t include foods with little calcium and a high fat content such as cream cheese, sour cream, cream, and butter.&nbsp;

<h2>Why is MyPlate a source of inspiration for the Sincerely Health app?</h2>
MyPlate’s daily food group targets, which were based on a 2,000 Calorie plan, served as a reference point for the Sincerely Health App, along with the directives on choices within the food groups to move to and limit. For example, MyPlate includes the key message to choose foods and beverages with less added sugars, saturated fat, and sodium.
